Riverdance – A Symphonic Suite, Linen & Lace, Inishlacken 

LYRIC FM commissioned Bill to write a flute concerto for Sir James Galway.  Linen & Lace musically united their respective home cities of Belfast (linen) and Limerick (lace).  In three sections, the piece opens with melodies associated with the city and moves to a virtuosic celebration of human force, flute, harp and orchestra duet with brass fanfares and marches before the work concludes with a solo flute cadenza.   Inishlacken is a concerto for two violins named after a deserted island off the Galway coast, performed by Helena Wood and Zoe Conway.  The symphonic setting of Riverdance keeps Bill’s rhythmic energy, melodies and themes in a way that is playable by the majestic sweep of a full orchestra, without the traditional musicians.  This premiere recording of three of Bill’s major compositions are performed by the RTE National Symphony Orchestra conducted by David Brophy.
